Waste Permits

Solid Waste
Waste materials are generated everyday as a result of residential, commercial, industrial, and governmental activities. These wastes can be homogeneous or a mixture of different solid materials. These materials can be generated as a result of a process, such as a by-product, or as a result of the end of its useful life for a particular purpose (e.g., used light bulb). In order to properly dispose of a material, the waste must first be assessed to determine if the material is considered a hazardous waste or a solid waste. Once the material is deemed a solid waste it can be properly disposed of in a solid waste disposal facility or possibly recycled.

Certain materials can be reused or recycled, which can aid the environmental while reducing the administrative and regulatory burden on you staff. Payne Environmental Services is knowledgeable of the definition of solid wastes and can assist your team in the proper characterization, recycling or disposal of the solid waste materials.

Hazardous Waste
In 1976, U.S. Congress passed the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) or the Hazardous Waste Act, which directed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop and put into effect a program to protect human health and the environment from improper hazardous waste management practices. The program is designed to control the management of hazardous waste from its point of generation to its ultimate disposal, or from “cradle to grave".

Hazardous wastes, as defined by the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, are "listed" specifically named) by the EPA or exhibit one of the four characteristics of hazardous waste (i.e., ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, or toxicity). Payne Environmental Services is knowledgeable of the regulations and can assist in the identification and proper disposal of hazardous waste materials. In order to eliminate potential liabilities associated with hazardous materials disposal, a greater number of companies are attempting to reduce the waste generated (commonly known as "Waste Minimization") or reuse the waste for another useful purpose (commonly known as "Recycling"). Payne Environmental Services is knowledgeable of the regulations and can work with your team on the identification and proper disposal of hazardous wastes or materials. Additionally, Payne Environmental Services can assist your organization in the preparation of Hazardous Materials or Waste Management Planning including Waste Minimization and Recycling Plans.
